Research Interests: Dialectology, sociolinguistics, linguistics, bilingualism, documentation and language-repository of Irish, especially Connacht Irish and the Galway Gaeltacht; as well as the other Celtic languages.
Biographical Sketch:
I am from Dublin and learnt my Irish from natives of Maínis and Carna in County Galway. I received three degrees in the Departments of Modern Irish, Old Irish and Welsh in University College Dublin: BA (1987), MA in Celtic Studies (1989) and PhD (1997) on the Irish of Iorras Aithneach. I got an MSc in Phonetics (1990) in the University of Edinburgh. I have been employed since 1994 in the School of Celtic Studies, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.
