Chris Bean leads the Geophysics Section at DIAS. His own research group’s primary areas of interest have been volcano seismology and deep water ocean-land coupling, as evidenced through microseisms. More recent group interests include induced microseismicity in geothermal fields and environmental seismology. The work spans numerical, laboratory and field applications, and is funded in the main by the European Commission, Science Foundation Ireland, Geological Survey Ireland and some industry collaborations. He has also led the development of large scale national geophysical infrastructure, particularly in the marine environment. Chris has a keen interest in public engagement, including arts-science collaborations, primarily in Europe.
