Title: Accelerating Black Hole Chemistry
Abstract: One of the more curious exact solutions of Einstein gravity is the
“C-metric”, a metric representing an accelerating black hole, the force
being provided by a cosmic string emerging from the black hole horizon. The
black hole is neither isolated, nor static, unless we embed it in AdS and
drop the acceleration below the AdS scale – a so called “slowly accelerating
black hole”. I will describe how to derive thermodynamics for the
non-isolated black hole, including the cosmic string tension as a
thermodynamical variable — as a result, a new chemical potential is
introduced, the thermodynamic length. I will also discuss a set of extensive
variables, or chemical expressions for the black hole that do not involve
any reference to the geometrical parameters and describe some critical
phenomena for the black hole.
