19 June 2012 – Seminar
When: 4pm on Tuesday, 19 June 2012
Where: DIAS, Geophysics Section, 5 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, (library)
Speaker: Daniel Bolte (DIAS and Charles University, Prague)
Title: Ice Modelling: Why we need to know the past to understand the future!
Abstract:
In order to estimate the consequences of the melting of the polar ice caps due to the recent climate changes it is necessary to have strong numerical models. This presentation aims to give a short historical overview of the development of numerical ice modeling as well as the present state of the research, which is represented by coupling rotational symmetric ice models and a self-gravitating, spherical, viscoelastic earth using the mathematical tools for continuum mechanics and potential theory. A brief outlook over future improvements of the models will be given.
